I Sent My Husband for Castration Tools.....
And he bought them and brought them back!! There are many tips and tricks that more experienced ponders can offer you. If you have ever watched an experienced koi handler what they do with plastic bags and rubber bands is like magic. One minute the bag is open and in the next few seconds the top is twisted into a tiny diameter and a 50 ft rubber band is twisted into tightly around it and it is now water tight. When trying to execute the same maneuvers, I end up with a fat mess of a bag, 10 popped rubber bands and a bag that is nowhere secure! At the Louisville show, I asked lots of folks if I could watch how they did it. Joanie and Scott Kendall were my saviors. They use lamb castration rubber bands and an applicator tool that spreads the rubber band wide and slips off leaving an easily secured bag full of water and koi. I sent my husband to tractor supply (because just maybe I had made a little fun of his rubber band tying as well as mine) and he brought back miracles. He said it was kind of expensive; 100 bands for 298. I nearly died until he said $2.98 and the tool costs $9.98. This is great for weak, arthritic , or clumsy hands!
